Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 #1 – Review

Stan Lee is back to writing comics? I’m on board. I saw this comic out of the corner of my eye today and I just had to see what was going to happen. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really all that impressed with what Mr. Lee had come up with.

The story is boring; the writing is bland and spells out far too much for the reader to really care about these characters. We can see into the thoughts of every character and all we get is boring exposition on how they all kind of hate each other but because this is a team book, they’ll overcome their issues with each other and work together to stop the evildoers of the world. Although, Stan Lee does write himself in as a character, which is an interesting twist.

Of course, that is the heart of Stan Lee. He built up comics back in the early days where thought bubbles and paper-thin villains were a legitimate story-telling device.

The art is what saves this book for me. I really like the classic Saturday morning cartoon feel, combined with a little bit of Archie Comics.

I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. For a first issue, it is more in the vein of classic comics, but I can’t see putting this on my Must-Have List.
